I don't like text. Let me correct myself. I don't like text on icons. Or rather, I don't like to add text to the icons I make. I figured I am not alone. While I found a few hush communities, I couldn't find one especially for science fiction challenges.
1. Icons should be in accordance with the LJ limits: 100x100 pixels and no larger than 40 KB unless noted otherwise. Please make sure you use JPG, GIF or PNG files. Note that not all browsers can handle PNG, so it might limit the votes you get. 2. There should be absolutely no words on your icons, unless part of the picture, like an open book. Tiny text-looking brushes might pass, if in doubt, ask one of the mods! Klingon, Ancient, Cardassian etc. letters are okay. 3. You may submit up to three icons each week, unless otherwise noted. Please limit animated icons to two per week. 4. You can vote for 1 icon if there are fewer than 4 entries, 2 if there are 4 or 5 entries and 6 if there are 6+ entries. This will be included in the voting instructions. 5. Voting for your own icon is against the rules. Please don't advertise your icon and solicit votes for it! Don't vote for your best friend because s/he is your friend!
I thought 5 rules were enough. This may change in the future.
Submissions should be made in the comments that will be screened. Please include the URL as well as the icon, in the following format:
Challenges: 1. Challenges may be photo challenges, when a variety of images will be supplied from multiple fandoms. 2. Challenges may be concept challenges, like "Family", in which case you are free to make an icon for any science fiction fandom. For example Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader would be just as acceptable as Beverly and Wesley Crusher. 3. Challenges may be quotes. Make an icon inspired by that quote! 4. Please give us ideas for other types of challenges!
Voting: There will be a poll posted every Friday evening after submissions are closed. The poll shall stay up till Monday morning.
Schedule: Challenge is posted Saturday morning around 10:15 a.m. CET (Star Trek starts then). Submissions end the following Friday at 7 p.m. CET. Voting starts shortly after and ends at 6:30 a.m. CET on Monday. Results are posted sometime on Monday. Banners are posted ASAP. Banners stay on the servers for a month, and are subject to deletion without further notice. CET is an hour ahead of Britain, 6 hours ahead the East Coast and 9 hours ahead of the West Coast.
Winners: There is 1st, 2nd and 3rd place as well as Mod's Choice. Each gets a banner!
